->> If you use Mail.app's browser to select an attachment, there should be a checkbox asking if you want to make the attachments easier for Windows users to download. (That's not the direct wording, but I'm not on my Mac right now.) Make sure that is checked. I had a similar problem with MS Outlook users receiving image attachments until I started checking that box. Note, if you drag the attachment to the e-mail, you won't see that checkbox. I think that there is an option to keep it checked in Mail.app preferences.

->> I've had this problem as well and a quick modification to my workflow seems to have resolved the problem. Since I am usually cropping down hi-res images for email, I use the Save for Web and Devices option in Photoshop (Save for Web in some versions) to save the cropped image at a quality of 60. I keep it at 100 if I am emailing a hi-res image to someone. Whenever I send an image like this, the recipient can always open it. Hope this helps if the other suggestions don't work.

->> Thanks for the info I will try these and see what works, I wish it just worked the way it is suppose to, I have called apple and they say that I am doing something wrong. Well at least it is not just me. It is just an attachment it does not make any sense. Again thanks for the input.

Outlook Express: User Information

  1. In Outlook Express, select 'Tools' > 'Accounts.'
  2. Click the 'Add' button and select 'Mail' from the resulting menu.
    WARNING: Do not edit an existing email account. You must use the Add Mail feature or you will lose your current email. To sync your IMAP folders, please read the IMAP Folder Sync section once setup for the new email account is complete.
  3. Display name: Enter your first and last name. This is the name that will appear in the 'From' field of messages you send.
  4. Click the 'Next' button.
  5. E-mail address: Enter your entire email address (e.g., someone@mydomain.com).
  6. Click the 'Next' button.

Outlook Express: Server Information

  1. Select 'IMAP' from the drop-down menu.
  2. Enter the following information:
    • Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server: secure.emailsrvr.com
    • Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: secure.emailsrvr.com
  3. Click the 'Next' button.

Outlook Express: Logon Information

  1. Enter the following information:
    • Account name: Enter your entire email address (e.g., someone@mydomain.com).
    • Password: Enter the password for your email account. If you want Outlook to check for mail without prompting you to enter your password, check the 'Remember password' box.
    • Leave the 'Log on using Secure Authentication (SPA)' box blank.
  2. Click the 'Next' button.
  3. Click the 'Finish' button.

Outlook Express: Account Properties

  1. In the 'Internet Accounts' window, click once on the account you just created.
  2. Click the 'Properties' button.
  3. Click the 'Servers' tab.
  4. Make sure the 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication' box is not checked.
  5. Check the 'My server requires authentication' box.
  6. Click the 'Settings' button.
  7. Make sure the 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server' button is selected.
  8. Click the 'OK' button.
  9. Click the Advanced tab.
  10. Check the first This server requires a secure connection (SSL) box.
  11. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) box, enter the secure outgoing port: 465.
  12. Check the second This server requires a secure connection (SSL) box.
  13. In the Incoming mail (IMAP) box, enter the secure incoming server port: 993.
  14. Click the 'OK' button.
  15. Click the 'Close' button.

Outlook Express: IMAP Folder Sync

Please be sure to follow the instructions below to keep from losing your old email from your previous mail host.
  1. Follow the setup instructions provided above for adding a new account. Please DO NOT edit an existing account as you will lose your old emails and folders.
  2. Once the new account is created, begin adding your previous folder structure to the new account so it mirrors your previous setup.
  3. Within your email client, copy the emails from the folders on the old account to the folders on the new account.
  4. Click Send/Receive to sync up the messages from your email client to the mail server. Please note: depending on the number and size of the messages, this could take several minutes.
